The Federation Training Year

Home / About Us / Our Training Year

Quarterly Terms

Just like regular academic schools, the Federation training year is divided into Winter, Spring, Summer & Autumn terms. Each term runs for twelve (12) weeks. New students may join any of our schools during the two-week enrolment period at the start of every term. If a prospective student applies to join General Classes outside of the enrolment period, they are placed on our waiting list and are guaranteed a place next term at their local school. Prospective students who wish to begin training mid-term are welcome to have private tuition before joining classes when the next term begins.

End-Of-Term Examinations

At the end of each term we run examinations in our martial arts. Students may attempt the test for their current programme if they feel properly prepared, and if successful may proceed to a higher programme the following term. However if one chooses not to test (or they are unsuccessful) the current programme may be repeated as many times as necessary. We prefer all students to test at these scheduled events, however if through illness, injury or holiday anyone is unable to attend the end-of-term examinations, it is usually possible to book a private test at the HQ anytime during our opening hours. Read more about our examination fees here.

Inter-Term Breaks

We run a 1-week inter-term break after the end-of-term examinations & before the start of the following term. This enables all members to have a well-deserved rest, and also allows our more dedicated students & instructors to book their holidays without missing classes. Our annual Summer Camp takes place during the summer inter-term break, and our annual Xmas Break runs for two weeks across the Christmas period.

Tutorials, Seminars & Special Events

Almost every weekend throughout the training year we run tutorials, workshops, seminars or special events designed to focus on a particular area of training, such as sensitivity, health & functional-fitness, pressure-testing, weapons, self-defence, instructor training, tournaments and even training holidays abroad. We host major seminars by world-renouned masters of Kung-Fu, Escrima, Historical Weapons, Grappling and more, which are open to all our members. The events diary for the current year is available to view (or to download if you are a member) via the seminars & events page at any time.
