On the evening of Friday 17th March 2006, the UKKFF headquarters in New Malden, Surrey were visited by two of the world's top WingTsun master-level practitioners. Dai-Sifu Allan Jensen and Sifu Morten Ibsen decided to make the most of their trip to the UK by combining a weekend meeting with WSL Sifu David Peterson with a first visit to the newest members of the World Martial Arts Alliance, namely Lee Heron and the UK Kung-Fu Federation. We were still recovering from our inaugural seminar the previous week, and so to meet yet more founder members of the Alliance so soon was truly fantastic.
Along with EC Master Steve Tappin & his son Wayne, we went to a nearby restaurant to discuss the future plans for the Alliance, development options for the UKKFF and of course have some nice food & build friendships. Both of the Danish Masters have an EWTO background in common with LPH, and so it was a simple matter for them to advise on our current level of understanding and possible avenues of WingTsun development. Then it was back to the HQ to meet up with some of our more senior students and a few hours of training.
Dai-Sifu Allan & Sifu Morten each took turns spending time with the senior student group and alone with LPH, and I can safely say that it was a wonderful experience for all of us! Both masters shared their extensive knowledge and experience freely, and opened our eyes to different training methods and ideas from the WingTsun Chi-Sao. Our concepts of softness, pressure, short-range power and application once past the TG level have been redefined, and we hope to work with WT Scandinavia in the future to continue exploring these paths.
Thanks to Master Steve for setting the meeting up, and to Wayne for all his driving & running around. I have no doubt that our students would love to see more, and so we look forward to organising or attending more seminars in the UK, or indeed visiting Denmark in the near future. Another beginning for the UKKFF and another friendship within the Alliance. It's good to be us!
