School History
Wimbledon was the first school opened by Federation head instructor Lee Paul Heron when he began teaching in South-West London. The school opened its doors in 1999 and was originally located in St John's Church Hall, South Wimbledon. The club met there each week until the start of 2002 when LPH began teaching the martial arts as a full-time profession instead of a part-time hobby. Subsequently the classes rapidly expanded, and in May 2002 moved to larger & better appointed premises at Wimbledon Leisure Centre in Latimer Road (pictured above) and have remained there ever since.
In 2005 the school gained a dedicated assistant instructor, and in 2006 we added an Escrima Concepts class to cater for those students who are studying both the armed & unarmed arts with us. (By the end of 2007 so many people were studying weapons we were obliged to move the Escrima class to our Chessington venue which has a lot more space!) At the start of 2008 we improved our teaching structure and added more time, so that all basic, intermediate & advanced level students now receive 2.5 hours of Kung-Fu tuition in each session.
Facilities
This venue has an excellent training area with wooden floors, full mirrors, air conditioning, toilets & changing rooms and a built-in sound system. The leisure centre itself has a very good gym, swimming pool and creche facilities too. Other schools within easy cross-training range are Kingston-Upon-Thames, Chessington and Ewell, plus of course our full-time headquarters in New Malden, Surrey.
