Our Purpose

Our Purpose Within Martial Arts

The Monolith from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, imparting knowledge & wisdom.

The UKKFF is a rich source of martial arts knowledge & experience. We help our members gain a clear understanding of the realities of violence, and explore simple, practical solutions to these complex, ever-changing problems.

The UK Kung-Fu Federation was conceived in 1999 and has been a professional, non-profit educational company since 2002. Real, authentic, practical martial arts are our passion and our life, and we study & train them on a daily basis. We have a clear, simple purpose and an important mission: We help normal people to understand & cope with the reality of violence.

Sadly, acts of violence remain common. But these acts are all just statements or questions spoken in a universal physical language that the vast majority of people don’t consciously speak or understand.

If you are unfamiliar with this strange language, you won’t view an act of violence as a statement or a question. You won’t see past the aggression, which is just the volume level – just like someone shouting at you in a foreign language. You’ll probably misunderstand the situation, perhaps panic, and end up "shouting back" at the other person physically (i.e. with punches) because you were unable to communicate and "answer" effectively. Does that sound familiar?

Our parents told all of us from an early age that violence is not the answer. However we are never told what the answer actually is.

This is because your parents probably didn’t know the answer themselves. The questions of violence come in many forms, the answers can be complicated, the goalposts often change, and things are different for each one of us. Because of this perpetual, generational ignorance, violence remains prevalent in our society, and societies the world over.

Collectively we are not free from violence because individually we don’t truly understand it.

Many people advocate nonviolence as the answer, but this is merely the opposite of violence, not the solution. Water may sometimes quench fire, but it won’t help you understand fire, and any professional firefighter will tell you that thoughtlessly pouring water on some fires will merely make them burn more fiercely & out of control. Let us study & truly understand violence, and only then can we master it.

It has been said that: “War is the continuation of politics by other means…” (Von Clausewitz). When the verbal communication stops, the physical communication begins. Some people are unable or unwilling to participate in verbal dialogue to achieve their goals, and so they use the physical language instead. Learning to understand & communicate in this language yourself is a big step towards conflict resolution.

This then is the purpose of the UKKFF: We help our members to explore armed & unarmed combat to better understand the reality of violence, and thus be free from all forms of conflict in their own lives.
